Numerous individuals undergoing cancer treatment receive a significant portion of their care in a home setting rather than a hospital environment. As a result, family members residing with or near them may find themselves shouldering various day-to-day medical and non-medical responsibilities.
Assuming the role of a family caregiver presents its challenges, yet it can also be deeply fulfilling. Fortunately, there exist numerous strategies and resources that can be employed to ensure the highest possible quality of life for both the individual receiving care and the caregiver.
As a Caregiver:
- Communicate
- Include the person with cancer in activities that provide meaning or pleasure
- Accept the limitations of a person who is seriously ill.
As a Patient:
- Practice ways to relax
- Share your feelings honestly with family friends a spiritual adviser or a counsellor.
- Ask for help
- Attend support groups
